Hello surfers. If you haven't visited for a while, that's okay; I haven't updated anything in a while. Or, if you haven't visited at all, as far as you know I update twice a week! Either way, I'm lazy.

I am now the full-time accompanist at Providence College . I work with the choirs, instrumentalists, and singers. All in all, it's been a good first semester. A lot of reading, but a lot of great music.

A friend of mine from Rhode Island College has given me a chance to write a larger-scale wind band work, which I'm happy to say is going well. It's just sketches now, but it could end up being the longest and largest work I've done so far. Three waltzes for piano and chorus are also in the works, as well as several more art songs. You know, the kind using original texts about fairly ordinary things. You can read about the songs/listen to them on other parts of the site.

One quick story:

I recently was on my way back to RI after visiting the folks in NJ. We took the turnpike, and as we passed the Holland Tunnel exit, I told my wife Mary "You know, we didn't visit NY this vacation."

"We could go" she said.

I didn't fully believe her, since she was already a bit tired and coming down with something. Also, "stopping off" in NYC would set us back quite a bit, although she knows I love it. What a doll.

"Really?" I asked.

"Sure, why not."

Thus began a wonderful, impromptu visit to "the" city. We took the Lincoln Tunnel exit, hit absolutely no traffic (and hardly any leaving), parked in a garage on 34th street, and had a great day walking around Manhattan. That city recharges me-it makes me feel like the New Yorker I never really got to be. But, as Billy Joel says "No matter where you go in the world, you never really leave New York and it never really leaves you."

He's right, I think, but I still miss the pizza.
